A challenge to the PSU Lingayen College Student Council

Those requests for support, those blazing moments of vote begging during the Miting de Avance had passed, and after the historical Elections came the list of our new set of student-leaders. What a short campaign period for those who aspired but unfortunately lost, and for those who displayed their best paper mask, we warmly congratulate them for a job well done.

Each of us, fellow voters, had unbearable reactions upon glimpsing the candidates’ faces and hearing them stated their intentions during the campaign period. During the Miting de Avance, they expressed their platform, each party confirmed the promises of good governance. Those platforms affected the thinking of the students in relation to their bets particularly positions, and somehow their platform attracted the trust and support of the voters. The listening crowds of voters then were like little children, entertained by clowns and magicians, and given free tickets to ride the Ferris Wheel of promises inside the premises of their carnival set-up.

All of those memories are now part of the past and the past is different from the present, although they are connected. It is now the moment of truth, the time for the real challenge the start of a battle against the unknown. The College Student Council (CSC), our very own respected organization had started in its operation, and with all the trust, we hope that all those elected leaders can cope well in managing their time between the academe and beloved positions. But, facing the reality of being a student, how many of them can really tackle the tasks of their positions? How far could they possible reach? Of course, they are much aware of the problems that they may face during the period of their leadership.

As a campus observer, I believe that from the very first, they had armed themselves with ammunitions for their battle of leading the studentry. And, of course, they are fully aware of the possible problems that will test the endurance of the organization. They can’t escape the fact the soon, the soon they will unsatisfactory alternatives. Will they choose to sacrifice their academics to perform well their obligations in the organization or are they going to focus more for studies and ignore the alleged duties of their respective positions? Perhaps, could it be only a matter of good management? I hope so.

All of us are aware that our school is still in the process of development. Unstable in one part, and of course, loaded with many problems. We have chairs, but not enough, some instructor do have problems about their hectic schedule of teaching, lack of rooms and facilities that will cater to the students, and a lot more! We know that “the projects of the working university president are working for us”. By the time that the officers were inducted into office, they ought to execute their duties on their fullest potential. And so, they will carry the obligation of administering the welfare of their fellow students. I believe that the CSC, being the representation of the unified studentry , will exert the best effort they could give to lessen the burdens that we are facing. The CSC should establish a good relationship with the administration and together bonded with the spirit of unity, the arena ideal for learning will rise!

Ten months is relatively a short period, but for a man endowed with industry to pursue his actions, and embodied with strength for the execution of his goals, it is long enough and nothing is impossible. For now, it is too early to judge the newly elected batch of student-leaders, they are still in the process of dealing with many adjustments. All we could do now is to give them enough time, hoping that they will manage their leadership to promote everyone’s welfare.
The CSC must always remember that the time is a precious thing. We can’t afford to lose and wait for another school year to strike. Being divided, it would be hard for them to accomplish something.
Now we ask the CSC. . . . . . can you do it and advocate for a change?
